Institution: Moravian College Position Title: Director of Campus Safety and Chief of Police Job Location: Bethlehem, PA Description: Moravian College, a private liberal arts college in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, seeks a dynamic, experienced leader to serve as Director of Campus Safety and Chief of Police. The Director serves as the chief administrator for and supervisor of the Moravian College Department of Campus Safety and Police and, as such, advances the mission of the Department which is the following: "to promote a safe and well-ordered environment for students, faculty, staff, and other members of our community by extending care and assistance, by overseeing the physical surroundings, and, when necessary, by enforcing laws and regulations, all carried out in a compassionate manner hallmarked by the values of respect, integrity, service, and excellence." The successful candidate will have, at minimum, an earned bachelor's degree and six years of experience in college or university policing. Classification: Administrative FMLA Status: Exempt The Director of Campus Safety and Chief of Police reports and is accountable to the Vice President for Student Affairs. SUPERVISION EXCERCISED: The Director supervises Police Officers, Security Officers, the Office Manager, dispatchers, and student workers as may be engaged by the department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: *Direct, monitor and enforce the rules of the institution and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to protect the security and safety of all constituents. *Formulate, evaluate, and implement policies to cover issues such as crisis incident protocols, campus and building accessibility, parking, keying, lighting, and crime prevention. *Develop and conduct programs to heighten the awareness of the College community regarding personal security and sound security practices. *Select, train, evaluate, and discipline all Security and Police personnel. *Direct and/or participate in incident investigations. *Coordinate all emergency response plans, protocols, tests, drills, and tabletop exercises. *Conduct regular inspections of buildings and grounds to identify safety hazards and make recommendations for repairs and modifications where appropriate. *Work closely with departments of Student Affairs and Facilities Services to resolve student incidents and safety problems. *Develop and administer departmental budget. *Maintain all security and safety equipment and systems such as automobiles, weapons, and alarm systems. *Develop all necessary administrative guidance for the department to include general orders, rules and regulations and directives, making sure that all officers are trained in their content and application. *Ensure compliance with all statistical record-keeping and reporting duties, which include but are not limited to the Clery Act and the FBI Uniform Crime Report. *Maintain and develop solid relationships with local public safety departments. *Perform additional duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: *An MA in police administration, public administration, or a related field is preferred; a BA degree in one of these fields is required. *A minimum of six years experience in college or university policing is essential; a minimum of at least two years as department head (or assistant department head at the management level of a large department) is also required. *Certification under PA Act 120 or, if from outside PA, the ability to get comparative compliance as a police officer in PA, is preferred. *Certification under PA Act 235 or the ability to become certified is required. *Appreciation of the service and educational role of a college Department of Campus Safety and Police *Demonstrated leadership and management skills. *Excellent organizational skills as well as superior interpersonal skills (verbal and written), and an ability to work closely with all constituencies of the College and Seminary including students, staff and faculty, in addition to the general public. *Computer literacy as well as experience with Microsoft Office, particularly in terms of database applications, word processing and spreadsheets.
